We have developed a biocompatible reaction for the N-arylation & N-alkenylation of peptide backbone N-H bonds. The reaction is directed by histidine residues and catalyzed by copper(II). We see potential use as a tool for studying the disruption of secondary structure, as well as more traditional bioconjugation applications.
